The word on, the hundreds year old street, is that rice water is miracle worker and offers many benefits to hair. Although, there is no definitive scientific evidence to support these claims, I have decided to see if there is anything behind the rumors of these ancient streets. When rice is cooked or allowed to absorb, rice water is the fibrous water standing behind. As well as making hair grow, it is believed to make the hair sleek and bright.

There is 75–80% total starch in grains of rice and It is thought that rice water provides much of the vitamins and minerals that the rice contains.

There are many different methods of making rice water, this is the method that I like:

Soaking:

  • Place about a half a cup of dry rice into a bowl.
  • Rinse well with water to rid rice of dirt and impurities.
  • Place 2 to 3 cups of water in a jar with the rice and seal it.
  • Let the mixture soak for overnight for a few days.
  • Strain the water from the rice into a spray bottle.

When to use rice water:

Use once a week as an additional conditioning treatment.

  • Shampoo and condition hair.
  • rinse well with tap water.
  • Spray rice water on hair, making sure to thoroughly wet each strand.
  • Rub the rice water through the hair with your fingers.
  • Let it stay on for 20 minutes.
  • Use warm tap water to thoroughly wash and clean hairs and scalp.

How often can it be used?

You can use it two to three times a week. It has no side effects and helps in the nourishment of your hair.
